Art Faculty Rosie Prevost and Kim Darling Featured in Juried Show

Florence Darling's "Self Portrait with Glasses"

St. Johnsbury Academy Fine Arts department faculty Rosie Prevost and Kim Darling are both featured in the juried show currently on display through February 16 at Catamount Arts. Prevost’s photograph is entitled Starfish Energy, and is a silver-based photographic print, sepia/selenium toned, 14 x 16 inches. Darling’s oil painting is entitled Self Portrait with Glasses, and is 20 x 16 inches.


Works by Rosie Prevost, chair of the SJA Fine Arts department, and Kim Darling, a Fine Arts department faculty member, are currently on display at Arts Connect at Catamount Arts, a juried exhibition in the Fried Family and Rankin Galleries through February 16. Representing a broad overview of contemporary practice, the exhibition features 77 works selected by Nick Capasso of the Fitchberg Art Museum from nearly 700 pieces submitted for consideration. Prevost’s photograph is entitled Starfish Energy, and is a silver-based photographic print, sepia/selenium toned, 14 x 16 inches. Darling’s oil painting is entitled Self Portrait with Glasses, and is 20 x 16 inches.

 

Juror Nick Capasso is a distinguished curator and museum administrator, currently serving as Director of the Fitchburg Art Museum in Fitchburg, MA. Prior to this appointment, Capasso was Deputy Director for Curatorial Affairs at the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, in Lincoln, Massachusetts. In addition to curating numerous exhibitions, he has been a major contributor to such books as Painting In Boston: 1950-2000 and other publications. Capasso has lectured and written extensively on contemporary public art. From 2000-2007 was Board Chair of Boston’s UrbanArts Institute and is currently serving as Chair of the Public Art Curatorial Committee at the Rose Kennedy Greenway Conservancy.

 

Rosie Prevost is a professional photographer who began her career in the commercial field. She operated her own studio, Woodside Photography from 1992-2001 until she began teaching photography at St. Johnsbury Academy. She was a member of the 215 College Gallery in Burlington from its inception in 2005 to its closing in 2011. She also served on the board at Catamount Arts and continues to support the local arts. Prevost is currently the Fine Arts department chair at St. Johnsbury Academy where she teaches photography rooted in traditional silver based materials.

 

Kim Darling Artist holds a BFA from Alfred University and an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She studied at Art Students League, New York City, New York, and at Bottega del Buon Fresco in Florence, Italy. She teaches at St. Johnsbury Academy and Community College of Vermont and is co-owner of Gatto Nero Press in St. Johnsbury.
