Seniors Named Vermont Presidential Scholars

December 3, 2018

The Vermont Agency of Education named St. Johnsbury Academy seniors Grace Phelps of Lunenburg and Mason Castle of Walden Vermont Presidential Scholars. Grace and Mason will attend an award ceremony at the State House on January 28, 2019. Each year, 10 boys and 10 girls from across the state of Vermont are named Vermont Presidential Scholars for their academic achievement, outstanding leadership, and service to their communities, and are invited to apply to the national Presidential Scholar competition conducted by the U.S. Department of Education.

Headmaster Tom Lovett said, “Grace, Mason, and their families should be very proud of this honor! To be considered as one of the top 1,000 scholars in the country is impressive. I am also proud of the faculty and staff who have helped prepare them. It is a tribute to their hard work and excellent instruction to have both a boy and a girl selected from our school.”
