ST. JOHNSBURY — This Spaniard is now an All-American.

St. Johnsbury Academy standout striker Pablo Gonzalez-Rotger on Sunday was selected as a United Soccer Coaches All-American, becoming the first Hilltopper soccer player to earn the prestigious honor.

The lone Vermont pick will be recognized with the best players from around the U.S. at the All-America ceremony in Chicago on Jan. 12

Gonzalez-Rotger, the 18-year-old from Mallorca, Spain, had a Metro Division-leading 18 goals while adding six assists for St. J, which made a run to its second straight Division I championship game in November. The championship-game appearances are the only two in school history.

A dynamic, relentless forward for the second-seeded Hilltoppers, Gonzalez-Rotger was also dubbed a Vermont D-I All-State and All-Metro first-team selection.

“Constantly double-teamed in a highly competitive conference, Pablo consistently found the back of the net with his skill, quickness, and ability to read the game,” said SJA coach Stephen Levesque. “In 2017, his vision and ability to score and create chances for his teammates, led to the soccer team’s best record in school history and the first ever D-I championship appearance. His 2018 campaign was even more impressive, as he captained a team of only two returning starters back to the championship. Pablo is a leader and gets the most out of his teammates. He is extremely passionate and a highly competitive player. He is one of, if not the most, dangerous attacking threats in the state of Vermont.”
