February 4, 2019

St. Johnsbury Academy creative writing students were honored for their work in the annual Vermont Scholastic Writing Awards. Olivia Robinson ’20 from Lyndonville, Jordan Barbour ’20 from Barnet, and Anzhelika Nastashchuk ’20 from Russia all received recognition for their work. Olivia received two gold keys and two silver keys for her poems, stories, and dramatic scripts; Jordan received two silver keys and two honorable mentions for her dramatic scripts and short stories; and Anzhelika received a silver key for her poem. The work winning regional Gold Keys will be judged at the national level of the competition.

Headmaster Tom Lovett said, “Kudos to these students and their teachers! While we often get to display the creativity of our visual and performing artists, as well as the makers in our shops and Maker Space, we rarely get to celebrate the achievements of our creative writers.  These students are excellent examples of this cohort of artists who are being taught by artists who are professional creative writers themselves.”
