SJA Theatre to Present The Just So Stories

The award-winning St. Johnsbury Academy Theatre will present its Vermont Regional Drama Festival-winning production of Rudyard Kipling’s The Just So Stories in Fuller Hall on Monday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. This will be the only local performance of the production before it is presented at the State Drama Festival in on April 5 and 6 at Essex High School. Admission is by donation and tickets will be available at the door.

 

This one-act dramatization of five of Rudyard Kipling’s best-known stories, including “How the Kangaroo Got its Hop” and “How the Elephant Got its Trunk,” delighted the audience at the regional drama festival, receiving a standing ovation and accolades from the other directors. Typical comments included, “This play made my heart so happy!” and “It was a high energy, committed and joyful performance from start to finish!” The show lasts just under one hour and is appropriate for children and adults of all ages. The play was directed by Chef Jerry Prevost.

 

At the state drama festival, in addition to the public performances, students and teachers will spend the day participating in technical rehearsals, workshops and critique sessions. The Vermont State Drama Festival is run by the Vermont Drama Council under the auspices of the Vermont Principals’ Association and represents a showcase of the finest high school drama in Vermont. At the state festival, hosted this year by Essex High School, two schools will be selected to represent Vermont in the New England Drama Festival, which will be held this year in Cranston, Rhode Island, on April 15, 16 and 17.
