St. Johnsbury Academy has announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2024. Brooke White of Barnet, Vermont (left), was named valedictorian; Greer Kennedy of St. Johnsbury, Vermont, was named salutatorian.

Valedictorian Brooke White took full advantage of her time at St. Johnsbury Academy and excelled academically, athletically, and in her extracurricular pursuits. Brooke’s academic honors include UVM’s Green and Gold Scholarship, AP Scholar with Distinction and AP Capstone Diploma candidate, Rensselaer Medalist for Outstanding Math and Science Achievement, National Latin Exam Gold Medalist, and National Merit Commended Scholar.

Brooke is a stand-out track athlete, participating in both indoor and outdoor track. Her achievements include back-to-back Division I 600m State Champion in 2023 and 2024, 2024 runner-up in the 300m, and 3rd in the long jump. For jumps, sprints, and throwing, she has qualified for the New England Championships, East Coast Invitational, 2023 New Balance Nationals, and 2024 Adidas Nationals. At Adidas Nationals this past March, Brooke’s distance medley relay team earned 2nd place in the National Elite Division.

Combining her athletic and leadership interests, Brooke helped found St. Johnsbury Academy’s first Student Athletic Advisory Council, of which she is Co-President. The council is a student-run organization that works with the athletic department to advocate for the ideas, rights, and needs of Academy athletes. Other leadership roles include Class Vice President during her 9th and 10th grade years and Class President during her 11th grade year. She has also coached long jump for St. Johnsbury Recreation Department Track, attended the Vermont Principals’ Association Student-Athlete Leadership Conference, and worked on campus as a tour guide for the admissions department.

Brooke will attend Dartmouth College where she intends to study biochemistry on the pre-medical track. She was also admitted to Bowdoin College, Middlebury College, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, University of New Hampshire, and The University of Vermont among others.

Salutatorian Greer Kennedy joined the Class of 2024 after her 9th grade year and went on to make a significant impact on St. Johnsbury Academy, earning state and national honors.

Academically, Greer is a National Merit Commended Scholar, AP Capstone Diploma candidate, AP Scholar with Distinction, U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidate, and also received the Harvard Book award.

Greer is a nationally recognized musician, playing the viola. She participated in the All National Honor Ensembles Symphony Orchestra, the New England Music Festival Orchestra, the Vermont All State Music Festival, the Vermont Youth Orchestra, and attended the Shreveport Centenary Suzuki School. Greer also won the Vermont Poetry Out Loud State Championship in 2023 and 2024 and competed at the national level. Greer is currently president of the National Honor Society and a member of Student Government.

Greer will attend Yale University where she plans to pursue a major in mathematics. She intends to continue with both viola performance and poetry writing and declamation. Greer was also admitted to Brown University, Williams College, Vassar College, Tufts University, Mount Holyoke College, Middlebury College, Hamilton College, and Amherst College, The University of Vermont, and several other colleges and universities.

Headmaster Dr. Sharon Howell said, “Brooke and Greer are inspiring students not only because they are such consummate scholars, with the highest and next-highest grade point average in the Class of 2024, but also because they have participated with success and relish in so many of the things the Academy offers for students. They have shown leadership for the school and in their extracurriculars; they also lead by quiet, modest example, and are tremendously respected by their peers. We are so proud of their achievements and congratulate them both.”
