Jeremy Roberts ‘90 Named Director of Facilities
St. Johnsbury Academy has announced the appointment of Jeremy Roberts as its new Director of Facilities. Roberts brings extensive experience in electrical education, campus operations, safety, construction, community leadership, and facilities-related projects to the position.
Roberts has been a member of the St. Johnsbury Academy community since 2014, most recently serving as an Electrical Instructor. During his tenure, he developed and implemented an electrical program designed to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and helped increase enrollment in the Academy’s electrical apprenticeship program. He also developed an updated Year One Electrical Apprenticeship course for the State of Vermont that is now being used at multiple technical centers, including St. Johnsbury Academy.
His experience at the Academy extends well beyond the classroom. Roberts served on the Buildings and Grounds Committee from 2016 to 2019, where he initiated and led a comprehensive two-year audit of campus space utilization. The resulting recommendations have helped inform the school’s approach to space management and future infrastructure planning. He also co-led the Academy’s Health & Safety Focus Group from 2021 to 2023, helping evaluate campus safety concerns and develop actionable plans.
Roberts has extensive professional experience in the electrical and construction fields. He has held a Vermont Master Electrician License for over 30 years. He is also an OSHA 510 Occupational Safety & Health Standards of Construction trainer and an OSHA 500 trainer through Keene State College. In addition, he has served as a National Center for Construction Education and Research Certified Instructor since 2014.
His leadership experience also includes serving as chair of the Barnet Selectboard from 2007 to 2019. In that role, Roberts led crisis-management efforts, developed a sustainable town plan, managed a $1.4 million budget, and oversaw the hiring and management of town personnel. More recently, he served as Clerk of the Works for a $1.5 million Barnet Town Hall renovation project.
Roberts is a 1990 graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy. His long history with the school, combined with his technical expertise and experience in safety, construction, project management, and community leadership, provides a strong foundation for his new role overseeing the Academy’s facilities.
In addition to his facilities and electrical experience, Roberts has held numerous positions supporting students and the broader Academy community, including Campus Life Community Service Coordinator, Student Employment Coordinator, Resident Student Orientation Weekend Group Leader, Skills Advisor, OSHA Trainer, and varsity softball head coach.
With Roberts moving into the Director of Facilities role, the Academy has already begun a search for his replacement as an Electrical Instructor. The Academy’s electrical program will continue, ensuring that students can maintain their progress toward valuable hands-on training, industry credentials, and apprenticeship opportunities. The school is committed to building on the strong foundation Roberts and the instructors who came before him have established and maintaining the program as an important part of its Career and Technical Education offerings.
