The Game
St. Johnsbury Academy has announced that the kickoff for the annual football game against Lyndon Institute—known traditionally as The Game—will be held at 5:00 PM Saturday, October 25, on Fairbanks Field. While the game is traditionally played at 1pm on Saturday afternoons, this year the State extended the football season by a week, and the final week of football now intersects with postseason play for all other sports, and the Cross-Country Championships. The result is the need to ease campus congestion—and ensure full fan access—on a day that may feature three major sporting events on the SJA campus.
The Game is one of the oldest high school football rivalries in the country. SJA Athletic Director Patrick Rainville shared, “The decision to adjust the start time was centered around student participation, effective event management, and the human resources required to host multiple events, which historically draw a heavy fan base.
St. Johnsbury Academy hopes that the community will enjoy the spirit and homecoming leading up to the 120th playing of The Game—and then enjoy the game itself under the lights on Fairbanks Field.
