Rosie’s Girls Camp

St. Johnsbury Academy hosted a special group of middle school students as part of Rosie’s Girls Camp. The camp is run in conjunction with Vermont Works for Women and Umbrella and helps area girls explore possible careers in the building trades industry. The students spent one week in SJA’s woodshop under the direction of Ashley Phelps and one week working in the school’s electricity classroom wiring circuits with SJA alum Alena Hayes, 05.
At Rosie’s Girls, youth are introduced to skills and career fields in which female and gender non-conforming people are often underrepresented through hands-on learning in a supportive and empowering environment.
In addition to trades and technical learning, campers learn from our social and emotional curriculum known as “Power Skills” to help them navigate school, friendships, and societal issues.
