Hearing from Hilltoppers: Brooke White
Brooke White is a senior who has lived in Vermont her whole life. She loves horseback riding, hunting, and making maple syrup with her family, which she considers some of her favorite seasonal Vermont activities!
Brooke is an avid track and field athlete, and she has competed in nearly every event except the 300 hurdles and the 3,000! Last fall, she attended the Vermont Principals’ Association’s Athlete Leadership Conference with three other Academy student-athletes. Brooke then formed the Student Athletic Advisory Council, a student-led committee on campus, that has helped athletes voice their opinions and shape the future of athletics at our school. On the council, she has planned multiple pep-chapels and sent out coach evaluation forms for athletes to fill out to gather data about their experiences with Academy athletics.
As a member of the Student Government, she works with the dining hall staff by providing feedback on the meals and ensures the school parking lots run smoothly, maintaining safety for student drivers. Brooke is a strong leader here at the Academy and she hopes that her efforts have had a positive effect on the school and her classmates.
Like her track career, Brooke has taken nearly every Advanced Placement (AP) class that the Academy offers. Her favorite has been AP Statistics, and she recommends it as a great addition to anyone’s senior year schedule. Alongside her challenging academics, Brooke has also greatly enjoyed her woodworking class with Mr. Palmer, and she claims that it’s easily her most satisfying class of the day.
The “essential” item in her bag is her mint gum (yum!), although her nerdy answer would be her calculator. Brooke also loves Winter Carnival here at SJA! Her favorite activities include ping pong, as well as the get-to-know-your-friend game. When she graduates in the spring, Brooke hopes that people will look at the example she set and realize it is okay to enjoy yourself, be silly, and show lots of school spirit!
