Class Council News
This essay marks the beginning of a series of stories by ninth grader Isabel Magnus about topics of interest to the SJA community.
The class councils at St. Johnsbury Academy play an important role in event planning, fundraising, and promoting class unity. Here’s what’s coming up soon:
The Class of 2024 class council is busy planning the senior prom and senior breakfast. The seniors are also gathering various donation items for their senior auction (everything from pounds of fudge to Airbnb stays). The proceeds from the auction will go towards the prom and the class gift to the school. The senior class is hoping to end their final year at the academy with a fun class bonding event similar to the Senior Sunset Evening they held at the beginning of the school year.
Next, the junior class council just completed their raffle fundraiser for a pair of tickets to a Red Sox/Yankees game at Fenway Park. The winner of this fantastic prize was drawn in Chapel on April 19th. The class of 2025 class council is also doing some early planning for the start of their senior year.
The 2026 class council is working diligently to plan their last fundraiser of the year, an exciting trivia night that everyone is welcome to attend. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 9th, and the sophomores hope to see you there! The sophomore class will end the school year on a high note with an all-class meeting to decide this year’s class of 2026 Champion Advisory.
Lastly, the ninth grade class council is planning both a futsal tournament fundraiser as well as a beach-themed dance which will be held on Friday, May 10th in Morse. The dance will spill outside onto Stowe Green where there will be a fire pit for roasting marshmallows, as well as plenty of fun games and activities. So, grab your sunglasses and flip-flops, and join the ninth graders for a beach-themed blast!
