The DAR Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest is intended to encourage and reward the Qualities of good citizenship. This award recognizes and rewards individuals with good citizenship qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree. Please give a round of applause to our two nominees, Ruby Tillotson and Lily Call. Seniors, a link has been sent to your school email to vote on the Class of 2026’s nominee. Voting will end on October 24th.
Get your glow on at Homecoming: Starry Night Edition this Saturday, 10/18, 7-10pm, in the Alumni Gym. Attire is semi-formal plus! $3/person or $5/couple. Bring extra $ for snacks and drinks. Register any non-SJA guests in Student Life by the end of the day today! Show up and shine!
This Friday, after school, starting at 3:00, there will be a pumpkin carving event in the Amphitheatre. We are helping the town carve pumpkins for their big Halloween event. Everything will be supplied. Come carve a pumpkin!
Attention Students: The Senior Class is partnering with our Culinary Program again to sell Carrot Cake for $5 and Hot Apple Cider for $2 at tomorrow’s JV and Varsity Girls Soccer games. Come support the soccer teams while enjoying tasty treats!
Kyra Fessenden needs help with her Capstone research! Kyra is looking for individuals who live on farms in Vermont to interview. If you live on a farm in Vermont, or know of people who do, please reach out to her through her student email, which will be on flyers posted around campus.
A reminder that Tinker House is now collecting gently used child and adult coats for the Paul Sweeney Memorial Coat Drive. Drop off coats from now until October 30th. The free coat sale will be at Good Sheperd Catholic School on November 1st from 9am-12pm.
This semester’s Fireside Literary speaker will be visiting us at 3:15 tomorrow, Wednesday, in the Mayo Lounge. Vermont filmmaker Bess O’Brien will share her latest documentary film, Just Getting By. The film focuses on poverty in Vermont with a close look at the difficult systems that families navigate to access housing and food. Please join Ms. O’Brien for the film and discussion to follow, in conjunction with our school’s commitment to fostering a healthy community. All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
The BioLink Club will meet Thursdays in Mrs. Macedonci’s classroom from 3:00-3:30PM. BioLink is a club that explores all areas of biology and that focuses on case studies and the biotech that is used to treat them. Join us to see how biotechnology is revolutionizing medicine, no experience necessary!
Are you looking to learn more about politics, government, and your rights? Indivisible St. J, a grassroots nonpartisan group based in the Northeast Kingdom, is hosting a program called, “Know your rights and responsibilities” tonight at 7pm at Catamount Arts on Eastern Avenue. Please reach out to your Social Studies (History) teacher if you have questions. This event is free and open to all.
Congratulations to Hannah Gladstone, the winner of the Riddle Drawing, and Mr. Lovett who won the Guess That Hilltopper Drawing. Great job! You can stop by the Student Life office to claim your prizes. Our bulletin boards have been updated with a new riddle and a new mystery Hilltopper. Varsity Field Hockey extended its win streak to three on Thursday with a hard fought, 1-0, win over Stowe in overtime. The goal was scored off a corner by Ayla Brown, assisted by Meredith Roy. Josie Royer earned the shut-out with 7 saves.
Varsity Girls Soccer beat South Burlington,1-0, with a double overtime goal scored by Ellie Reed and assisted by Ailee Stratton. The JV Girls Soccer took the win, 4-0, as well. Cora Adams scored twice, while Maya Franson and DeeDee Roy also added goals.
Boys JV-A Soccer beat CVU, 3-2, on Saturday. Marianno Vera scored twice, while Andres Perez score our third with a long free kick.
Varsity Field Hockey extended its win streak to four on Saturday with strong, 2-0, win over Harwood. Brooklyn Gingue scored two goals and was assisted by Aven Thomas and Meredith Roy.
Congratulations, Hannah Wigger who placed 5th at the Vermont Girls Division 1 State Championship Tournament, which also qualifies her for the New England Championship Tournament.
Last Wednesday, Hilltopper Mountain Biking competed at the Dublin School. In the girl’s Category A, Tillie Lange finished 4th and in boy’s category A, Brody Dussault finished 8th. On Sunday, the team competed in the Woodstock Enduro. In the Category B race, Forrest Bentley finished 2nd and Adara Williams 4th. Congratulations to all participants!
Congratulations to Bella Annello, as she was top Hilltopper at the NVAC league championships on Saturday. Congratulations also to Anya Moriarty, Una McKinnon, Giuliana Tizzoni, and Bailey Qualter for season PR’s at the Burnt Hills Invite!
