Green Day / SJA Gear Day

Attention International Students -— Any student wanting to take the February 12 TOEFL — the registration deadline is today by noon! Email Mrs. McCaffrey at mmccaffrey@stjlabs.com to register and with any questions.

Calling all SJA pet-owners: there is a new Instagram page to highlight your dog, cat, horse, rabbit, fish, etc. Check out @petsofsja and submit through messages a photo and some facts about your pet to share! Thanks to all who have already submitted! We love sharing your cute animals! Special thanks to Senior Class Leaders for spreading the word about this morale booster!

Thank you to everyone who applied to be a model for our Spring Fashion Show. The interest was overwhelming, and we are so grateful to everyone who showed up and waited so patiently for their turn. You will receive an email from Ms. Darling next week with more details about our selection process, fittings, scheduling, and more.  It takes courage to volunteer for such a public exhibition, so thank you again for showing up!

Calling all public speakers! Once again, the St. Johnsbury Rotary Club is sponsoring a High School Speech Contest that offers students a chance to use their voices to change lives and win cash prizes. Last year, three Academy students took home hundreds of dollars in prizes, and one, Clara Andre, was selected as regional runner-up. This year’s topic is “How can your school partner with Rotary to change lives?” Speeches are limited to five minutes and need to relate this topic to teamwork and Rotary values.   If you are interested in competing, please pick up a registration form in the Headmasters office by February 1!

Are you concerned with the current state of affairs in the United States? Do you want your voice to be heard? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then listen carefully. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders wants to hear from you! Bernie is sponsoring his “State of the Union” essay contest. In this short essay (250-500 words), you need to identify a problem that is facing the United States today and propose ideas on how the issue could be solved. Please see Mr. Eckhardt or any Social Studies teacher for more information about this opportunity.

Math club will meet on Monday at 3:30 in Fuller basement for the fourth New England Math League Competition. Please bring your graphing calculators.

Today is the last day you can get set up for Ice Climbing, which will happen tomorrow, Saturday, just 10 minutes from campus in Barnet. Come to Colby 209 to get your boots set up, and grab a permission slip in Campus Life. Don’t miss this chance to climb a frozen waterfall right in our own back yard! The Bus will leave Brantview drive at 12 and we will be back by 4.

Thank you so much to all of our Poetry Out Loud school finalists! We had one of the tightest competitions in recent memory.  Congratulations to Madison Wilson, the school champion, who will be representing St. Johnsbury Academy in Barre on March 14 at the statewide final competition. The winner from that competition will go on to compete at the national level in Washington D.C. in April. Thank you again to everyone who took part in the competition on all levels.
