Hey, have you noticed those snappily dressed Japanese students? They’re from the Academy’s partner school in Tokyo. Wouldn’t you like to get to know them better? You should…and a good way to do that is by attending the Japanese culture festival that they will be running this afternoon. From 2:40 to 4:30, you can learn Japanese arts and crafts and games in the Library Fireside. Everyone is welcome!
On April 13, St. Johnsbury Academy’s Model UN club is offering our very own Northeast Kingdom Model United Nations Conference. This conference will host two committees. One is looking at how the Organization of American States would manage the collapse of Nicaragua; the other is looking at issues of peace and sustainability in the Arctic Region. Both committees will have aspects of crisis committees. This conference, like all good Model UN conferences, will be friendly to delegates who are trying this for the first time. If you want to sign up, see Mr. Ehrean or any member of Model UN!
Are you interested in being part of the Vermont Tobacco Control Youth Leadership Council? This opportunity is open to any Vermont youth entering grades 6-12 in the fall, who has an interest in public health and wellness, youth leadership, and using their voice to create positive change in their schools and communities. The VTCYLC will meet to make important decisions on youth engagement strategies, areas of focus and statewide activities for the OVX and VKAT youth initiative programs. Council members will also work alongside Vermont Department of Health staff to envision and run the Annual Youth Leadership Summit and Annual Statehouse Rally. There is a stipend of $1,400/year for this position. Please stop at Tinker house for an application if you are interested.
Math Team will be meeting for the final round of the New England Math League in Severance 19. St. Johnsbury is currently sitting in the top position in all of Vermont and 29th overall in New England against many high-level schools in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Please come out and support as we look to finish up strong in the league.
Happy Birthday today to Esme Kimber, Jeronimo Mosquera Rivera, Donovan Randall, Chase Smith, and Wesley Strong!
