White Day

All students in Chef Hale’s A and B Intro classes should report to the South Church for class today. Chef B’s Culinary 1 students should report to the Hilltopper.

The Intro to Human Services class would like to thank everyone for participating in the various awareness campaign days of action this month and has one more to share. Denim Day falls on Wednesday April 27 this year and serves as a bookend for Sexual Assault Awareness Month. According to denimdayinfo.org, “Denim Day campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped the person remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim. Peace Over Violence developed the Denim Day campaign in response to this case and the activism surrounding it. Since then, what started as a local campaign to bring awareness to victim blaming and destructive myths that surround sexual violence has grown into a movement.” This Wednesday has been approved as a Variety Day, at the cost of $1, with proceeds going to Umbrella. This is not just any ordinary Variety Day, it is Denim Day, so we ask that the people participating wear denim or follow the standard dress code expectations if they choose not to wear denim. By choosing to wear denim on Wednesday, students are joining the social statement as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence. Lastly, we’d like to congratulate Kaylee Powers as the winner of the coloring contest and acknowledge Wyllough of the Vorhies advisory for being selected as runner up.

A reminder to sophomores: Sophomore Stewardship Day is coming up on Friday. Please get your field trip permission slips signed by your parent or guardian as soon as possible. You can return to slips to your advisor or to the Campus Life office.
