Today, we recognize and celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, a cherished holiday in Chinese culture and across many East and Southeast Asian communities. What is the Mid-Autumn Festival? Also known as the Moon Festival, this holiday honors the full moon and the harvest season. Families gather to admire the moon, share stories, and enjoy traditional treats like mooncakes, which symbolize reunion and good fortune. The festival is rooted in legends, including the story of Chang’e, the moon goddess, and is a time for expressing gratitude, celebrating family, and wishing for prosperity. To our Chinese students and all who celebrate— Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! May your celebrations be filled with joy, moonlight, and meaningful connections. Please join us in the Streeter kitchen right after school today to make some mooncakes. To our American students and others unfamiliar with the tradition: We invite you to learn more about this beautiful celebration and join us in honoring the cultural diversity that enriches our school community.
