Good morning, Class of 2023 — it is that time of year. On April 13, there will be a school day SAT offered for those who are interested. You should have received a google form in your stjlabs email. Attention all writers and artists: please consider submitting your work for publication in The Clear River Review, the Academy’s journal for the creative writing and the arts! You can also work on your submissions over the holiday break.  All submissions are due by January 31. Please view the guidelines and submission form on the Academy webpage under the English Department information, or go to https://bit.ly/clearriver. You’ll find posters with rip-strips with the address around campus. You can also talk to Mrs. Mackenzie in Ranger 110 or Ms. Drew in the Capstone Office for more information.

 

Last call for a once and a lifetime opportunity to try out some ice climbing with the Outing Club. If you would like to go with the Outing Club ice climbing this weekend, you must see Mr. Weiss today right after school to get fitted for boots and get signed up in Campus Life. The trip with leave this Sunday from Brantview Drive at 9:30 am and return by 3 pm.  Dare to explore!

 

Math club will meet Monday for Round 3 of the American Scholastic Mathematics Association. See you in Fuller Basement at 3:30 for competition 3 of ASMA. 

 

SCOPE will hold its first meeting of the new year next Tuesday, January 17, at 3:30 in Ranger 212. For those of you who don’t know, the acronym SCOPE stands for “Students Creating Opportunities for Positive Engagement.” The club is student-driven, research-based, and dedicated to providing students from all backgrounds the opportunity to promote grass-roots leadership initiatives on campus and in their local or global community. We always welcome new members, so please stop by and check us out. You can also see Mrs. Begin in Ranger 208 or Mrs. Morris in Ranger 212 with any questions. Hope to see you there!

 

Happy Birthday today to Nathan Anti! Happy Birthday tomorrow to Gabrielle Anzalone, Zoey Cusac, and Shyam O’Conner, and on Sunday to Jorryn Burchell, Elijah Hebert, Jenny Li, Santiago Velazquez Contreras, and Jason Waldman!

 

On Wednesday at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, the Academy Nordic team competed in their first Classic race of the season. The Varsity boys finished in third place out of 5 teams. The Hilltoppers were led by Ryan Callaghan and Sisu Lange who finished in 9th and 10th place respectively. The Hilltopper Girls also finished in third, led by strong performances by Aliza Wright and Siri Jolliffe who finished in 9 and 11th place. Peter Bergman handily won the JV Boys race and Harper Crance finished 3rd overall in the JV girls race. Special congrats to Grace O’Malley for competing in her first Nordic race! The Hilltoppers next meet is in Walden next Wednesday.

 

Wrestling beat CVU, 27-24. Ozzy Alsaid, Will Casciari and Shyam O’connor all had outstanding performances. This weekend, the team travels to Essex for a tournament. Good luck to all wrestlers!

 

The Alpine Ski Team had their first slalom race of the season at the Middlebury Snow Bowl, with a smaller field than anticipated of CVU, South Burlington and MMU. CVU won both races. Abby Kantor was the top racer for the Academy in fifth place, followed by Madigan Maurer in 12th place, Elizabeth Lopes in 14th place, and Alia Davis in 16th place. For the boys, Zach Alamuddin finished in 8th, followed by David Kanto in 9th place, Wyatt Knaus in 12th, and Liam Rice in 13th place. The Hilltoppers will race at home this Monday.

 

Gymanstics beat undefeated CVU, 131.65 to 128.4, to keep their undefeated record!
