Alumna Teaches Master Classes

Claire Côté ’04 spent last week at her alma mater teaching master classes to Marianne Handy Hraibi’s dance students. Ms. Côté first studied the Martha Graham Technique with Hraibi at the Academy, and continued with advanced Modern, Ballet, African and Choreography at Goucher College, in addition to majoring in Anthropology/Sociology and Art. She later participated in dance intensives of Contemporary, Contact Improvisation, and Gaga dance. After graduating from Goucher College, she performed and choreographed with the Effervescent Collective in Baltimore, Maryland. She moved to Berlin, Germany, in 2011, where she has since been creating and performing dances and teaching numerous improvisation workshops. Recently, she expanded her artistic practice to include making electronic music. She said, “I am very grateful to return to the Academy to share my love of improvisation in my dance master class, Improvisation and Composition. I will also teach a weekly improv class for the next couple months until I return to Berlin at the St. Johnsbury Ballet Studio.”
