Athletics

Supporting 51 teams across 23 sports. In any given semester, 350-450 (around 40-45%) of SJA students play a sport. Playing on a team and winning and losing together continues to teach our students lessons in resilience, cooperation, and responsibility to others. Our teams and their successes are a point of pride, not just for the school, but for the whole community.  SJA Athletics has a strong fan base of family, friends, alumni, and community members.

Theatre

The SJA Theatre program has two productions each year. For the 2023-2024 school year there will be two musicals. This is a well-loved program with hundreds of community members attending each performance.

Operation Creation

Operation Creation is open to 25-30 rising 9th grade students from the local area with 75% of these students coming from families experiencing financial insecurity. For two weeks in July, students receive a work-like experience to directly connect them with training and education that will lead to careers or college. Students also receive a financial completion award with a majority of funds going directly to a savings account. For many, this is their first bank account and teaches the value of saving money and financial management.

SJA SkillsUSA Team

Each year, SJA students enrolled in career and technical education courses participate in the State and National SkillsUSA competition. SkillsUSA is a national nonprofit organization serving high school and college students who are preparing for careers in trade, technical, and skilled service occupations. This year, SJA expects to have 25 students competing in the following categories: Culinary Arts and Baking, Woodworking, Welding, Carpentry, Plumbing, and Automotive.

SJA FIRST Robotics Competition Team

This team is made up of 10-15 SJA students in grades 9-12 who design, fabricate, and program a robot to compete at regional FIRST Robotics Competitions. FIRST Robotics is an international organization that combines the excitement of sport with engineering and technology. Students are challenged to raise funds, hone teamwork skills, and build and program industrial-size robots to play a difficult field game against like-minded competitors.

Science Olympiad

The Science Olympiad Team trains throughout the year for STEM competitions that provide rigorous standards-based challenges. This program helps form the leaders of the next generation of science researchers and innovators. The SJA teams compete in smaller competitions and the Vermont State Competition, with a goal of attending the National Science Olympiad tournament.

Additional Programs and Activities

Sponsorships may support additional opportunities that arise to enrich students’ experiences, provide connection, and enhance their well-being. These could be related to clubs, travel trips, competitions, the arts activities, and more.

SJA Golf Benefit

This fundraising event takes place in June 2024. Funds raised will support the SJA athletics program. Teams compete in a scramble event with various prizes available on each par 3. Also included are a 50/50 raffle, the sale of mulligans, and a putting contest. With 100 – 120 golfers and a team of 10-12 volunteers, the event promises to be a wonderful time for fellowship and friendly competition.
