THE Athletics Experience
Sam Begin ’22
Hometown: Waterford, Vermont
Hi! My name is Sam Begin, and I have attended the Academy for all four years of high school, and I consider myself extremely lucky to have been able to call myself a student leader. I tried to be involved in as many things as possible during my tenure. I have been a member of student-run organizations such as student government and class council, and I have also been a three-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, and lacrosse. In my senior year, I was named a varsity captain of all three teams and prided myself on my leadership capabilities, as I truly believed my actions were making differences in the abilities of my teammates. I am incredibly honored to have been a member of each respective team for my four years here. I have created bonds with the members of my teams that will stay with me forever, and I’ll certainly never forget the atmosphere and school spirit that surrounds games and practices.
St. Johnsbury Academy’s culture and community are easily apparent in every student activity. One of the largest boosts to school spirit following the pandemic was fans returning to sporting events and the return to tackle football. In the fall, the student and community crowds that gathered to watch our games was astounding. As a leader on the team, it was amazing to see the school community celebrate my fellow teammates. Confidence is incredibly important to an athlete, and the Academy community has a way of always supporting one another. I would highly recommend St. Johnsbury Academy as a place to spend even one of your high school years. I am incredibly honored to have been able to accomplish as much as I did during my time here, and none of it would have been possible without the help of any number of wonderful teachers, faculty, coaches, and students that I am lucky enough to interact with daily. The Academy teaches you to be more than just a student, and that is priceless.
