St. Johnsbury Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society

The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.

The purpose of the St. Johnsbury Academy Chapter of the National Honor Society is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in the students of secondary schools. As a selected member of the St. Johnsbury Academy Chapter National Honor Society we ask our members to take the following pledge:

National Honor Society Pledge

I pledge to maintain my high scholastic standing,

To hold as fundamental and worthy

An untarnished character,

To endeavor intelligently and courageously

To be a leader,

And to give of myself freely in service to others.

In so doing, I shall prove myself worthy

Of a place in the National Honor Society.

At St. Johnsbury Academy our chapter’s vision is for our members to model the Four Pillars of NHS: Character, Scholarship, Leadership, and Service to make a difference in our school and extended communities: locally, regionally, nationally, and worldwide.

Being a member of NHS comes with great responsibility. Character is the foundation on which the other three pillars are built. To be a scholar you must have academic integrity; as a leader, you must build relationships based on respect; and with service, you must be humble and put others ahead of yourself.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our 2021 Induction Ceremony was put on hold. In the spirit of flexibility and creativity and with the help of the SJA Marketing Department, the St. Johnsbury Academy National Honor Society Advisors and Officers are pleased to honor our 2021 inductees with a Virtual Induction Ceremony.

Congratulations to all of our inductees, who are watching from around the globe. We are proud of you and look forward to the day that we will all be together again.

Stay well, and best wishes for a restful and healthy summer vacation.
